T Phone 2: entry-level phone for 200 euros with five years of updates
Deutsche Telekom has presented the second generation of its own cell phones. The T Phone 2 is affordable and should last a long time.

New cell phones from Deutsche Telekom: T Phone 2 and T Phone 2 Pro are aimed at users looking for an inexpensive cell phone with longer support. Deutsche Telekom promises five years of security updates for both models. However, the phones only receive two new Android versions during this period - Deutsche Telekom's update promise is therefore worth less than that of manufacturers such as Samsung and Google, which regularly distribute new Android versions in addition to security updates.
With the security updates, however, the T Phone and T Phone 2 can at least be used for years without any security concerns. In addition, both new Telekom cell phones are inexpensive: The entry-level model T Phone is available without a contract for 200 euros, the T Phone Pro costs 300 euros. The phones will be available from May 23.

Snapdragon chip
In view of the price, buyers should not expect too much from the hardware. However, both models work with a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 - in contrast to many other entry-level phones that rely on Mediatek processors. The standard model has 6 GB of RAM, while the Pro version is slightly more generously equipped with 8 GB. The T Phone 2 Pro also has more internal storage space with 256 GB than the T Phone 2 with 128 GB. Both models have a MicroSD slot for memory expansion.
The T Phone 2 Pro is also slightly superior to the standard model in terms of the camera, which adds optical image stabilization to the triple camera with 50 megabytes of the T Phone 2. There are clear differences in the display: unlike the T Phone, the T Phone 2 Pro has an AMOLED panel, while the T Phone is equipped with an IPS display.
Both displays are 6.8 inches in size and the product dimensions are correspondingly similar. However, the T Phone 2 Pro is slightly slimmer, has a smaller chin and the front camera in a punchhole notch at the top center, while the standard model has a teardrop-shaped notch.
Telekom also emphasizes the positive eco-rating of the two new smartphones: the T Phone 2 achieves 88 points, the T Phone 2 Pro 84, putting both phones high up in the rankings - but the eco-rating is also criticized for its opacity.
